Our outreach mission is... ACTIVE!
Our ACTIVE program focuses on 6 initiatives:
To be AMBASSADORS of FIRST by demonstrating Gracious Professionalism at all times. We strive to embody the spirit and core values of FIRST both in and out competition by sharing our experience and acquired knowledge, collaborating and participating in other team’s events, and being positive and inclusive to everyone. In our team’s ten year history, our main principle has been to allow any member to compete regardless of their socioeconomic status, with as little financial stress as possible which we graciously thank our sponsors for allowing us to do. Through these fundamentals, we create a safe and collaborative atmosphere among our team members, and view one another as family, with each member contributing their unique ideas, experiences, and personality to the team.
To be active members of our COMMUNITY by hosting and participating in community events and through community service.
To be TEACHERS and expose students to the power of STEM and support them in their pursuit of STEM. We do this by sharing resources throughout their academic careers, starting in elementary through high school, and continuing into college and career. We believe that involving students in STEM at a young age is essential to fostering creativity and building confidence in their technical skills.
To make a global impact by spreading STEM at an INTERNATIONAL level to third world countries and areas that lack educational resources. We believe many students in third world countries are highly innovative individuals who lack an outlet for their ambition and creativity. By immersing them in STEM, we hope they can use their STEM knowledge in their everyday life and educate others around them.
To promote VARIETY and diversity in STEM workplaces by spreading STEM to underrepresented groups such as females, people of color and racial minorities, disabled persons, and low-income communities. We believe this will lead to new perspectives, increased creativity, better problem-solving, and higher productivity and performance.
To be the bridge between our community, FIRST, and the STEM world by being EXPLORERS of the STEM industry, reaching out to engineering professionals and experts, touring STEM facilities and learning about their system, and continuing to pursue STEM in our future. In addition to this, we use FIRST Tech Challenge to prepare ourselves for the STEM industry by applying real-world engineering practices such as following the engineering design process (EDP), testing the limits of creativity through innovation and design, creating and implementing strategies in the game, collaborating with one another and other teams, and journaling and reporting our entire process in the engineering journal and portfolio.
As we continue to grow, we strive to create a more wholesome program that strengthens the relationships and connections in our community.
